Welcome to the website of the
Golden Age Gorinchem Foundation!

The beginning...

The foundation was founded on 18 June 2008 in order to shape and develop the initiative of the art historian Drs. B. Biemans MA to bring back works of art by well-known 17th century painters from Gorcum to this city, so the citizens from Gorcum will become aware of the quality of this work that is nationally and internationally undisputed.

In the Dutch Golden Age, Gorinchem was a famous trade junction and brought forth painters such as Abraham Bloemaert, Aert van der Neer and Jan van der Heyden. One can name at least ten additional well-known artists from Gorcum whose paintings hang in museums of New York (the Metropolitan), Paris (the Louvre), London (the National Gallery) and Madrid (the Prado).

The goal of the Foundation is to search for these works of art at fairs and auctions in order to acquire them for Gorinchem. The paintings, drawings and etchings are exhibited in the Gorcums Museum at the Grote Markt (the Grand Market).

The Golden Age Foundation is established to accomplish this. The Foundation consists of a board with a solid base and an experienced and enthusiastic Golden Age Team that is involved in the orientation on works and acquisitions. There is also a ‘Friends of the Golden Age Gorinchem’ organisation. The Golden Age Foundation is established to accomplish this.
