Cornelis Saftleven
Gorinchem, 1607
- Rotterdam, 14 June 1681

Cornelis Saftleven was born in Gorinchem in 1607. Around 1627, he went to Rotterdam where he lived until his death in 1681, only interceded by a period in Antwerp between 1632 and 1637.

Saftleven was a versatile painter, which is reflected by the many genres he worked in, such as landscapes, portraits, animal paintings and genre works.
His paintings can be found in many well-known museums all over the world, such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Vienna and the museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
