Nicolaes van Haeften

Gorinchem, 1663
- Paris 20 February 1715

The painter Nicolaes (Walraven) van Haeften has been born in 1663 in Gorinchem. His parents were the baker Walraven van Haeften and Anneken Verhulst who have been married in Gorinchem on March 11, 1663. On July 1st, 1664 Walraven van Haeften bought the house at Gasthuisstraat 49 in which he established a bakery.

In around 1670 he left with his parents for Rotterdam where he lived until 1690. He then moved to Antwerp where he stayed until 1694. From here he went to Paris where he died in 1715.

Paintings and prints of Nicolaes van Haeften are in the collection of famous museums like the British Museum in London, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, U.S.A., Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam.
